Includes typed proposals for the township and borough, schools, orphans home, etc.; approximately 25 pieces, typed, manuscript, a photo of E.P. Read, the founder and 2 almanacs produced by him. Condition varies, should be seen.

  • Notes: The land that became Lawnside, New Jersey was purchased and put aside for freed and escaped slaves in 1840, but the actual community did not come about until 1926. Among the papers offered here is developer E. P. Read's typed proposal for the community and the Certificate of Incorporation for the Cosmopolitan Educational Institute and the Eureka Sanatorium Association, as part of Lawnside's retirement community.
