CALLAGHAN, MORLEY. Strange Fugitive. 8vo, black cloth lettered in green, bright; dust jacket, spine panel lightly faded, ends a bit worn, one small crease with residual chip along right fold, otherwise unusually nice. New York: Scribner's, 1928
- Notes: first edition of callaghan''s celebrated first novel. Signed and dated in the month of publication. Callaghan, a Toronto native, had published several stories in Ezra Pound''s expatriate magazine, Exile, before coming to the attention of Scribner''s editor Maxwell Perkins, who asked Callaghan to send ahead a few stories and this novel. For reasons not entirely clear, this raised the ire of Pound, about whom Perkins said to Callaghan that he had "an abusive champion whose temperament was past his understanding"--Callaghan. That Summer in Paris.
