  • Notes: First complete edition of Champlain''s voyages. "Perhaps the most important of the old editions, as it contains a collective narrative embodying a review of all preceding French expeditions to the New World, followed by and interwoven with Champlain''s own voyages to Canada. . . . The first accurate account we have of the life, habits, and warfare of the Indians in the interior of the present state of New York"--Church 420. This edition has, as usual, the reprinted second state of pages 27-30, which remove a slightly unflattering allusion to Cardinal Richelieu. The collation follows Church except as noted. European Americana 632/20 (describes this as the second setting of pages 27-30); Field 268; Lande 118; Pilling 719; Sabin 11839.
