(CANADA.) [Grieve, Mrs.?] Manuscript diary of trip from New York to Scotland. 48 pages. 4to, 1/4 calf, worn; some leaves coming loose, lacking at least one diary leaf covering 2 to 6 September as well as several leaves from the volume's original incarnation as an account book, slight edge wear with occasional loss of text; inscribed by the author's husband(?), "John Grieve, Schenectady, 1818." New York, Canada, and Scotland, 24 August 1823 to 15 August 1824

  • Notes: The diary of a Scottish immigrant to New York as she returns to her home town. She leaves her husband in Geneva, NY and travels by boat across Lake Ontario and down the St. Lawrence, with nice description of Quebec and many of the smaller towns on the way. She writes at sea: "My birth day, this time 25 years I was likewise on the Atlantic Ocean going to America" (29 September 1823). She then visits with family south of Glasgow until returning in July 1824.
