Group of more than 270 photographs of automobile accidents, some of which appear in the book "Car Crashes and Other Sad Stories," comprising graphic images of the casualties of the pre-seatbelt era and including the occasional plane crash and train wreck. Silver prints, 9 1/2x7 1/2 inches (24.1x19.1 cm.) and slightly smaller, with Kilpatrick's hand stamps on verso or recto. 1940s-50s
- Notes: Included in the lot is Mell Kilpatrick's book car crashes and other sad stories (Taschen, 2000). Kilpatrick was a West Coast contemporary of Weegee whose work focused more on the subjects of tragic accidents than crime. His photographs were discovered in his home 35 years after his death.
