Provenance: Collection of Dr. Benjamin Caldwell of Nashville, Tennessee; Collection of John Daniel Tilford.

The figures in this drawing relate to the painting, Black Levee, painted in the 1960s and is the artist's subtle reference to and support for the civil rights movement.
