CAVANAGH, G. S. T. The Panorama of Vesalius: A 'Lost' Design from Titian's Studio. 2 accordion-folded plates printed in sepia. Large 4to, plates

CAVANAGH, G. S. T. The Panorama of Vesalius: A 'Lost' Design from Titian's Studio. 2 accordion-folded plates printed in sepia. Large 4to, plates and text booklet laid in publisher's cloth portfolio as issued. Athens, Ga.: Sacrum Press, 1996

  • Notes: first edition. one of 250 copies. Proceeding from the recognition that the 14 separate full-page illustrations of muscle men in Vesalius's De humani corporis fabrica are reversed segments of a frieze, "the present publication is an attempt to recreate in full folio size the original art work which is here presumed to have been prepared for Vesalius's work by Titian's artists and cutters" (page [5]). The 2 folding plates are composites in which the figures (divided into front and back views) are shown to form a single panoramic image with a continuous landscape background.
