First illustrated edition of Don Quixote, first edition in Dutch, two 12mo volumes, each volume illustrated with added engraved title and twelve full-page plates (two engraved titles and twenty-four plates over both volumes); two folded leaves containing a biography of Cervantes from another book bound in after the text in the second volume; bound in full contemporary Dutch parchment, laced case construction, with yapp edges, ex libris Flemish poet Victor Alexis de la Montagne (1854-1915), with bookplates in both volumes; a few minor condition issues including a few marginal paper flaws with no loss, a tear in F4 without loss, and a small rust home in K2 with loss of several letters; each 5 1/4 x 3 in. (2)

Rius 799; Palau 53222; rare in institutional holdings and at auction, with two complete sets coming up for sale in 1964 and 2010, the latter was the present copy.
