First edition in English, translated from the Armenian by scholar and historian Johannes Avdall (1803-1870); two octavo volumes; illustrated with 3 folding engraved plates, including a map of Armenia bound as the frontispiece in volume one; the set bound in uniform 19th-century calf and marbled boards, spines gilt, old library labels on spines; ex libris Uppsala University Library, with book label inside front board noting that the set was sold as a duplicate; 1921 bookplate of the Bibliotheque Armenologique Pastakean inside front board; 8 1/2 x 5 1/4 in. (2)

Born in Iran, translator Avdall lived in Calcutta, and dedicated this work to the president and members of the Asiatic Society of Bengal; he also contributes a preface to the work.
