CHARLES III; KING OF THE UK. Typed Letter Signed, "Charles," as Prince, with 6-line holograph postscript, to polo champion William B. W

SIGNING LETTER WITH LEFT HAND BECAUSE OF BROKEN ARM CHARLES III; KING OF THE UK. Typed Letter Signed, "Charles," as Prince, with 6-line holograph postscript, to polo champion William B. Wilson ("Dear Willie"), thanking for sending his letter and a book, expressing appreciation for his remarkable experiences, hoping that he has a good polo season and, in the postscript, explaining that he had broken his arm playing polo. 1 page, 4to, Prince of Wales's feathers stationery; horizontal folds. With the original envelope. London [from postmark], 12 July 1990

The holograph lines: "Since having this typed, I have stupidly gone & broken my right arm in two places during a polo game! I have lots of people with endless suggestions as to healing techniques!"
In June of 1990, Charles's polo match in Cirencester was interrupted when he fell from his horse, fracturing his arm. Despite public concern about his health and recommendations that he give up the game, Charles continued to participate in polo matches until 2005.
William B. Wilson (1914-1997) was an American oil and gas executive and U.S. polo champion who served for three years as governor of the United States Polo Association beginning in 1969.
