CHARLES LABORDE. American City scene.

CHARLES LABORDE.
American City scene. Gouache on board, 391x290 mm; 15 1/2x11 3/8 inches, sheet (image ruled in pencil to 12x8 1/2 inches), a pastiche of American themes including waving flags , chorus girls, skyscrapers, an eagle holding a dollar coin, gangsters, a dancing hobo, and a giddy beer stein-wielding man. Verso blank, archivally matted with corner slots, framed. Circa 1930.

  • Notes: Though Laborde is best known for his satirical and humorous city views of Paris, he traveled to major international cities in the 1930s and may have done this brightly colored, amusing work, believed to be unpublished, while in New York.
