Charles Loupot 1892-1962 St. Raphael. 26.75 x 23.5 inches. Gaillard,Paris. Condition A-: vertical and horizontal folds. As Zagrodski notes in his book, Loupot's work for St. Raphael "can be qualified asthe work of his life." Working hand in hand with Max Augier, the advertising director of St. Raphael, Loupot, between the years 1937- 1960, created a series of posters that tell of a unique saga in the story of advertising. Beginning with the poster that features the stylization of red- and white-clad waiters, Loupot gradually moved towards creating more and more abstract images. The colors and typography eventually became so recognizable to the French public that Loupot could play endlessly with them, constantly changing the time, shape, and layout. This particular poster is a brilliant example of how Loupot experimented with letters and colors. Many different variants of this poster were printed, but very few survived Rare. ref.
