Charles White drew and painted many impressive portaits of Dr. W. E. B. DuBois through out his career. This later, intimate portait was recorded by Lucinda Gedeon as a preliminary study, and one of a series of five portraits of historical black figures by Charles White (Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, Rev. Richard Allen and Capt. Paul Cuffee). These drawings were executed for the first edition of Lerone Bennett, Jr.'s The Shaping of Black America which was published by the Johnson Publishing Company in 1975. Gedeon D282.
