  • Notes:
This fascinating drawing of a young African American man sketching is a page taken from one of the earliest known sketch books of Charles White. White began sketching in this book when he began his studies in the fall of 1937 at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Lucinda Gedeon recorded this page 28 of 75 from sketchbook "A" which had "Charles White Art Institute" inscribed on the cover.

Heritage Gallery numbered this page in pencil, lower right. The pages were unbound and sold by Heritage Gallery in Los Angeles when it represented the artist's estate.
