- Notes: first an only edition of this ambitious directory. Not only does it give the names and addresses of Chicago's colored citizens, but in 90% of the instances gives their occupations. These are not all shopkeepers, bankers, lawyers, etc. such as one might find in most directories of this period, but porters, dishwashers, postal clerks, etc. are also included. Musicians and actors are also listed, professions that normally would be excluded.
