- Notes: first edition. An extraordinary compilation that includes poetry by Claude McKay, Jean Toomer, Georgia Douglas Johnson, Langston Hughes, and many others. Artists are well represented with Aaron Douglas, Richmond Barthe, Edmonia Lewis, etc. Articles cover just about every area of endeavor and are profusely illustrated with photographic reproductions. The compiler, a Garveyite and race-pride advocate later changed his name to "F. H. Hamurrabi," after the Babylonian law-giver.
