  • Notes: first edition of a desirable work concerning the pack of Tarocco (Tarot) cards painted by Antonio Cicognara for the Cardinal Ascanic Sforza in 1484. The cards are in the possession of The Pierpont Morgan Library and in the Accademia Carrara in Bergano. "The first part treats Nielli . . .the second of playing cards; the third of lithography and siderography. Many interesting documents on the subject are included in the Appendix"--Bigmore & Wyman I, 135. This set ex-collection Augusto Calabi, renowned collector of European and Dutch old master prints and author of several art historical works. He had the binding paper specially designed by his friend, Wiener Werkstätte artist Ugo Zovetti which Calabi used on several of his most cherished books.
