(CIVIL RIGHTS--LYNCHING.) Man about to be lynched.

(CIVIL RIGHTS--LYNCHING.) Man about to be lynched. Enlarged photograph 9-1/2 x 7-3/4 inches; image slightly blurred, of a man with a noose around his neck. In the background some sort of "official" looking building. Someone has written "fight Against Slavery" on the reverse in pencil, and "History Slavery" in ink next to it. In all likelihood, neither have anything to do with the photograph, and were probably added later. Np, circa 1920'-1930's

  • Notes: This image is not to be found in James Allen's virtually definitive work "Without Sanctuary (Twin Palms, 2003.)
