(CIVIL RIGHTS.) "Dawn of a New Era in Mississippi," a pamphlet for the Medgar Evers Fund.

(CIVIL RIGHTS.) "Dawn of a New Era in Mississippi," a pamphlet for the Medgar Evers Fund. [6] pages, 6 x 9 inches, on one folding sheet; minimal wear. New York, 1969

  • Notes: The activist Medgar Evers was assassinated in 1963. His older brother Charles Evers (born 1922) took over Medgar''s role as head of the Mississippi branch of the NAACP. He was elected mayor of Fayette, MS in 1969--the first African American to be elected as mayor in that state, other than all-black Mound Bayou. The Medgar Evers Fund was founded that same year with Charles as president, with the intent of funding community service projects in Fayette and Jefferson County. This pamphlet describes the fund''s work and is illustrated with three photographs of Charles Evers in action. He remained in office for most of the next twenty years. We trace no other examples in OCLC or at auction.
