Notes: Following the death of Martin Luther King Jr. in April, 1968, Dr. Ralph Abernathy took over as head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He continued to travel around the country and to speak to black audiences. Here in Philadelphia he was trying to get people to register and vote in the crucial upcoming elections of 1968.
