  • Notes: 19 of these images date from the September 1957 effort to integrate the public schools in Little Rock, including one showing the renowned local NAACP leader Daisy Bates in court to press the legal side of the case. Also included are 5 photographs from the following years: one showing an empty classroom in 1958, and two more upbeat images showing the smiling first white student in McAlmont Elementary in 1963.
