  • Notes: Lester Garfield Maddox (1915-2003) governor of Georgia, staunch states' rights advocate, and segregationist. This poster was distributed during Maddox's run for the governor's mansion in 1966. As governor in 1968, Maddox endorsed George Wallace for president on the American Independent Party ticket. And, following Martin Luther King Jr's assassination, Maddox refused to allow his body to lie in state in the state capital.
