(CIVIL RIGHTS.) Tent City . . . "Home of the Brave."

(CIVIL RIGHTS.) Tent City . . . "Home of the Brave." Numerous text illustrations. 22 printed pages. Octavo, 9 x 6 inches, original illustrated wrappers; minimal wear. Washington: Industrial Union Department, AFL-CIO, [1961]

  • Notes: Describes a 1960 voter registration drive among the sharecroppers of Fayette County, Tennessee, who were then evicted from their homes in retaliation, and faced additional boycotts and retaliation. Dozens of them moved into "Tent City," a cluster of 14 crude tents on a Black farmer's land. This pamphlet was issued by the largely white AFL-CIO national trade union, with reporting from the local United Packinghouse Workers, and an introduction by AFL-CIO president Walter P. Reuther. None traced at auction.
