Behind the Lynching of Emmet Louis Till. 8vo, original wrappers. 1955.
Emmet Till was born and raised in Chicago. His parents sent him to spend the summer of 1955 with an uncle in Mississippi. On a dare, he approached a white woman and put his hand on her waist. He was abducted by the woman's husband and her brother, who brutally beat and lynched him. A month later the two were found innocent of murder by an all white jury. The Till case laid the groundwork for Congress to pass legislation in 1957 that insured investigation into civil rights violations.
