(CIVIL RIGHTS.) You Can Help Too / Stamps for Freedom flier featuring a Danny Lyon image.

(CIVIL RIGHTS.) You Can Help Too / Stamps for Freedom flier featuring a Danny Lyon image. Double-sided illustrated flier, 10¾ x 8½ inches; minimal wear. Atlanta, GA: Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee, circa 1964

  • Notes: An appeal to support SNCC's voter organization drives in the deep South, requesting donations of either cars or trading stamps. "When a Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee field secretary began work in Marshall County, Mississippi in the summer of 1962, he had to ride a mule from settlement to settlement. When a SNCC vote project began in Wilcox County, Alabama, the SNCC worker there took to mule back also. Neither worker was trying to impress the local citizens. They just didn't have cars."

The "Stamps for Freedom" photograph of the young girl is credited to SNCC photographer Danny Lyon; the other image of the two older men is uncredited. None in OCLC or at auction; one is held as part of the John O'Neal Papers at Tulane University.
