Album with 45 cartes-de-visite relating to the career of Alfred Gibbs, who was a career officer in the U.S. Army and served as a brigadier general in the Union Army during the Civil War, in addition to family members, and military, cultural, and academic figures. Mounted albumen prints, each is captioned, in a period handwriting, below the window mount. 8vo, gilt-pictorial cloth, edgewear; all edges gilt. 1861-1865

  • Notes: In addition to portraits of Alfred Gibbs, there are cdv's of other military figures, including Burnside, Henry Morris, Parkinson, as well as images of Frederick L. Olmstead [sic], Louis Agassiz, and Herbert Spencer.
