  • Notes: Wade Davis was an inmate in the Union prison for Confederate officers at Johnson''s Island, OH. "I have bin in prison somthing over four monts. I have bin in servis three years next May. . . . I can think of relatives & frinds, it is a great hapiness to me to corespond with them all. . . . I learn you are all rebels but Uncle Wade & he was a good old Union. It is a cures [curious] thing to me that people has but a short time to live & spens that time in cilling up each other." The recipient was likely Wade Hampton Davis (1796-1877) of Nodaway, MO (see lot 39).
