  • Notes: The biography of a University of Virginia student who enlisted in the Confederate Army and died at Fredericksburg in December 1862. One of the few narratives of a Confederate soldier published before the end of the war. 


    Stated second edition, but we can find no examples of any earlier edition in OCLC, auction records or bibliographies; a third edition was issued in 1878.  Howes S549; Nevins, page I:158 (third edition only); Parrish & Willingham 5049; Sabin 81709. None traced at auction since 1915, in a Henkels catalogue which noted "Of excessive rarity. The only copy I ever saw."
