  • Notes: Edward Henry (ca. 1836-1899) of Pottsville, PA enlisted with the 96th Pennsylvania Infantry in 1861. His letters include some poignant passages: "I am sorry to hear of one of my old flames getting married but wish her all the enjoyments immagineable and a long and happy life" (Harrison''s Landing, VA, 26 July 1862). In the same letter, he discusses the imminent arrival of Burnside''s IX Corps and the presence of the ironclads Monitor and Galena to protect shipping. with--2 other letters from Pennsylvania soldiers: L[ysander?] S.
