  • Notes: Published in Gardner's Photographic Sketch Book of the War, plate I:35, where the full caption is "View of Gettysburg from Cemetery Hill: The road on the left is the Baltimore pike. The large buildings just at the turn of the pike was [sic] the extreme outpost of the Federal skirmishers after the Confederates occupied the town."

    Provenance: Vermont family home of George Franklin Davis, Quartermaster General of Vermont (1815-1901) and his son-in-law Captain Charles Gilbert Gould (1845-1916), who won the Medal of Honor for heroism at Petersburg in 1865; Gary R. Wallace auction held in Ossipee, NH, lot 21, to the father of the consignor, 19 July 2000.
