(CIVIL WAR.) Group of Civil War letters and papers from various regiments. More than 140 items (0.3 linear feet) in one box; condition varies. Various places, 1861-1865

  • Notes: Letters of the Fogg brothers, Civil War soldiers of Maine. Charles E. Fogg (1845-1924) of Otis, ME served in the 28th and 31st Maine Infantry. Includes approximately 24 of his letters, some from the Port Hudson campaign in Louisiana, and also the Siege of Petersburg 1862-1865. Willard Orman Fogg (1848-1926) of the 1st Maine Heavy Artillery is represented by 2 letters, 1861-1862. Also includes related later family papers.

    2nd New York Veteran Cavalry. Approximately 56 orderly reports, morning reports, and other documents, 1864-January 1865. This regiment was mainly known for losing almost 200 men in a steamer disaster as they headed home.

    Papers of Clarence Mauk of Indiana, a captain in the 4th U.S. Cavalry Regiment. Approximately 50 items, including official correspondence, supply lists, and a lone letter by an unidentified woman describing a levee at the White House during the last days of Buchanan, 31 January 1861. 1861-1865.

    Papers of Chipman A. Holly, lieutenant in the 19th Wisconsin Infantry. 11 official letters and documents filed for later pension claims, 1864-1865.
