- Notes: "... I was placed on duty with that rank & so continued to the close of the war, commanding a Division of Cavalry at the surrender of West Miss. Dept. near Hampton... I was not only Supt of Indian affairs but Commdr of that District & all the Forces therein from about Dec. 23, 1863 till I think Aprl 1865 when I was assigned to a Division of Cavalry... I care very little for these things, but if my name is used I want it used right..."
