(CIVIL WAR.) Our Whole Union; or, the Missouri Register. Broadside newspaper printed in blue ink on single page, 23 1/2 x 17 1/2 inches; minor dampstaining, several small tears affecting the legibility of a few words. Macon City, MO, 15 June 1861

  • Notes: A single-issue Civil War newspaper produced by the men of the 1st Iowa Infantry. They commandeered a Confederate-sympathizing newspaper office while passing through Macon City, Missouri, and issued this newspaper the same evening. On the strength of this effort, editor Franc B. Wilkie was soon hired as war correspondent by the New York Times, according to his 1891 autobiography. Graff 3139. WorldCat lists only 4 copies.
