CLARK, GEORGE ROGERS. Document Signed, "GRClark," granting power of attorney to John Crittenden for the sale of Rogers's land in Kentucky. Additionally signed by Clark's brother-in-law, William Croghan. 2 pages, folio, with integral blank; minor toning at folds. Jefferson County [KY], 16 October 1793

  • Notes: ". . . I . . . do nominate, constitute, ordain and appoint . . . John Crittenden my true and lawful attorney . . . to dispose of Bargain and sell all or any of the lands . . . . twelve thousand acres . . . being on the bank of [the] Ohio River ten or twelve miles above the mount of [the] Kentucky river formerly in the County of Woodford, but now in Scott County, also Ten thousand acres on the Kentucky river including the mouth of Severn creek . . . ."
    Clark (1752-1818) commanded the Kentucky militia at the opening of the Revolution, achieving mounting success around Illinois including the capture of Kaskasia and Vincennes, later becoming Virginia brigadier-general. His younger brother was William Clark, who shared leadership of the Lewis and Clark Expedition.
