Clotilde & Alexandre Sakharoff Sakharoff/Clotilde & Alexandre 1928 27.125 x 18.75 inches. Crete, Paris. Condition A: crease through bottom left corner, not affecting image. Clotilde and Alexandre Sakharoff danced all over the world for nearly forty years, the longevity of their careers no doubt linked to their impressive advertising. Their most famous poster was designed by Georges Barbierin 1923, but this 1927 piece by Philippe Petit is also very good. It was obviously a stock poster; the location of the "Theater Royal- Gand" was probably printed locally, as it obscures the signature. In a neo-Cubist illustration style with rich and warm touches of color, Petit shows the couple at their most appealing, that is, while dancing. The typography is also fitting for the time and subject matter.
