The photogravure technique was artfully employed by master photographers of the turn-of-the-century such as Edward S. Curtis, Alfred Stieglitz, and Alvin Langdon Coburn. The plates in this volume were prepared by Coburn himself and printed under his supervision at the Ballantype Press of London.
