COLLIGNON, FRANÇOIS. Bound volume containing a suite of 12 etched cartouches after Stefano della Bella. Each approximately 83x175 mm, with thread margins or trimmed on the plate mark; hinged to larger sheets. Oblong 4to, modern 1/2 green morocco. Np, circa 1640

  • Notes: Strong impressions on thin cream laid paper, each second state (of 4). Vesme 1145-56. with the ownership inscription of the author john evelyn (1620-1706) on the first plate: "Coll: Evelynus: Parisijs 1643: Num: 198 Omnia Explorate Meliora Retinete." Evelyn came of age during the English Civil War and spent most of that period on the Continent, settling in Paris and forming a significant collection of books and prints.
