- Notes: first english edition. inscribed and signed by hueffer. : "The Preface to this book must be the last completed thing that Conrad wrote for the press & the proofs were the last proofs he corrected. I wish I could remember more about it--how it was written. Ford Madox Ford/New York Dec MCMXXVI." According to Keating "A Conrad Memorial Library" (p. 248), Ford's surmise was incorrect but it is nevertheless an important and fine association copy. This is also the copy cited in Harvey's bibliography of Ford.69a.
