"Standing Room Only." Tempera on illustration board. 345x235 mm; 13 1/2x9 1/2 inches, image. Signed lower right with a Presentation inscription "To Elinor and Martin Bush." Wonderful depiction of vexed dinner patrons glaring at blithely unaware or uncaring couple lingering well past dessert. Printers marks in the margins on recto; penciled date and exhibition label filled out in the artist's hand on verso. Published as The New Yorker cover, October 21, 1944.

  • Notes: Exhibited in Philadelphia at The Pennsylvania Academy of The Fine Arts in 1945 at the Forty-Third Water Color and Print Exhibition.
