CONTINENTAL CONGRESS. Articles of Confederation and Perpetual Union between the States of New-Hampshire, Massachusett's-Bay, Rhode-Island and Providence Plantations, Connecticut, New-York, New-Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, North-Carolina, South-Carolina, and Georgia. 8 pages. Folio, unbound; insect damage with minor loss to text, some soiling and staining. Exeter, 1777

  • Notes: Even before the vote for independence, the members of the Continental Congress realized the necessity of a written document outlining the unified relationship between the states while ensuring their respective sovereignty. The articles were approved on 15 November 1777 and passed to the states for ratification. Although the first edition published the year prior in Philadelphia is the most desirable, each of the 1777 state printings are sought after. This New Hampshire printing is particularly uncommon. Evans 15624; Howes A345.
