CORSO, GREGORY. Small archive of signed postcards, books, and ephemera. Mostly correspondence to his father. Principally spans between 1953 to 1968 when Corso was at his most creative and prolific. Usually signed as "Sonny" which was his family nickname. Condition varies on the books. Formerly in the collection of Corso's father, Gary Fortunato "Sam" Corso. Vp, 1950s

  • Notes: Includes: Autograph Postcard Signed by Corso to his parents, from Hollywood, Florida, on the pleasantries of the beaches. 24 March 1953 * Typed Letter (unsigned) as "Sonny" to his father from Harvard University, telling him that his play ["This Hung-Up Age"] was a big success, and mentions that he can "venture to write up here whereas in New York, I rarely find the time and place to write." He gives him his address and asks he keep it to himself. 1 page, 8vo, folds. Original envelope postmarked Cambridge, 5 May 1955 * i. e. The Cambridge Review. Spring, 1955 Vol. 1., No. 3 Contains his Requiem for "Bird" Parker. With a penciled note by Corso paper clipped to cover: "Dear Dad, here's another poem I had published. Look in the back of the book and you see an ad announcing my forthcoming book of poems." * Autograph Postcard Signed "Sonny" from Europe: "I have been writing hard. My book is due in December [Gasoline]. My picture was in July issue of Esquire, get it, if you can. Also my poems will be in Evergreen Review #3 in Oct or Nov. get that in 8th street book store in Greenwich Village--" Postmarked Amsterdam 1957. The Esquire clipping and a copy of Evergreen Review. Vol. 1, no. 3, containing three of Corso's poems are included. (New York, 1953) * Empty envelope addressed by Corso to his brother Jerry. Notable for the return address written on verso: 9 Rue Git-le-Coer, the famous "Beat Hotel," the lodging house on the Left Bank that became a haven for expatriate writers and artists, and where Ginsberg would write Kaddish. Mailed from Spain, postmarked 6 November 1958 * Gasoline. Pocket Poet Series Number 8. First Edition. 8vo, wrappers, toned. San Francisco: City Lights, (1958); Bomb. Thin folded folio sheet, printed in black, toned, folds with some separation. First Edition, first issue with both Gasoline and Vestal Lady advertised on verso. San Francisco: City Lights, (1958) * The Happy Birthday of Death. 8vo, pictorial wrappers, dampstained, creasing. First Edition. New York: New Directions, (1960) * Few other small items including a signed parking receipt, a postcard from a family member to Corso's parents and a few newspaper clippings concerning Corso.
