An appendix on pages [341]-364 contains the first edition of the autobiography of the Marrano philosopher and free-thinker Uriel Da Costa (1585-1640), which he composed before committing suicide, followed by a refutation of his ideas by Limborch. "Da Costa became a hero of the fight against religious intolerance, and a precursor of modern Bible criticism and naturalistic thought"--EJ V, 987-88. EP II, 244.
