(COSTUME / FILM / THEATER.) CECIL BEATON. "My Fair Lady."

CECIL BEATON.
"My Fair Lady." Costume sketch. Watercolor, pen and ink on paper. 757x575 mm; 29 1/8x22 5/8 inches. Signed, lower right, signed with his London address on verso. Tipped to matte along top verso, matted and framed. Circa 1958.

  • Notes: A charming and large-scale portrait (likely a study for Eliza Doolittle) in white gown and hat with long pink ribbon, petting a borzoi, done in shades of grey and mauve. Beaton created the costume design for the Lerner and Lowe musical production of "My Fair Lady" in New York and London, and the costume and stage set design for the 1964 film adaptation, which won two Oscars.
