In the aftermath of WWI, France relied heavily on foreign and national loans in order to recoup the devastating losses incurredduring wartime. In one of his rarer, non-travel images, Broders depicts a clerk in a black coat at his desk, with his hand raised conspiratorially next to his mouth as he mentions that subscribing tothe National Loan is, pun intended, "in our interest"; lettering in gray against a red background.
