CREDIT DE L'OUEST. 1920. 30.875 x22.75in. Devambez, Paris. ConditionB+: restoration horizontal and vertical creases; ink stains in margins. In the aftermath of WWI, France relied heavily on foreign and national loans in order to recoup the devastating losses incurredduring wartime. In one of his rarer, non-travel images, Broders depicts a clerk in a black coat at his desk, with his hand raised conspiratorially next to his mouth as he mentions that subscribing tothe National Loan is, pun intended, "in our interest"; lettering in gray against a red background. Broders p. 29.
