CREEK WAR LETTER JACKSON, ANDREW. Autograph Letter Signed, to Brigadier General George Doherty, concerning the transportation of his brigade's baggage and heavy articles by water to relieve the troops in the overland march, written just two weeks before the decisive Battle of Horseshoe Bend. 1 page, small 4to sheet; inlaid, remargined along the top with possible loss to text, two large repaired tears. Np, 14 March 1814

Notes: "The quartermaster general through his assistant has been directed to furnish you with waggons to transport the Baggage of your Brigade on such part thereof as may be necessary for the convenience and comfort of the troops over land to the next Deposit. Any heavy articles that can be spared from the convenience of the Troops I have directed to be sent down by water... the baggage of your Brigade intended for overland transportation must be taken down to the mouth of the creek by a Boat which will cross the troops..."
Despite the condition problems, this letter has been nicely restored resulting in a very presentable item. Creek War letters by Jackson are uncommon, and this one has significant content as it concerns the movement of Tennesse troops in Alabama just prior to the battle which ended the Creek War and established Jackson as a military hero.
