(CUBA.) Group of contracts for indentured Chinese laborers. 22 partly-printed Documents Signed, each about 12 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches; moderate toning, foxing, and wear. Cuba, 1865-75

  • Notes: Each contract stipulates the term of service (one or two years), wages to be paid, clothing issued, and more. The laborers entered the contracts under their assigned Spanish names, with no surnames. The latest of these contracts, dated 24 May 1875, bears the laborer''s Chinese signature. He is described as "al asiatico José," aged 30, of Macao, and is contracted to work for Ignacio de Cardenas for 6 years.
