Depicts bust portrait of Cuffee with a background of a sailing ship and a representation of the shores of America and Liberia, within an unbroken octagonal border; paper slightly and evenly toned, with a few pale dots. The caption reads: "Engraved for Abrm. Pennock, by Mason and Maas, from a Drawing by John Pole, M.D. of Bristol, Eng." Np, 1850

  • Notes: Paul Cuffee (1759-1817) sea captain, merchant and activist was deeply involved in the Liberia movement of the late 18th-early 19th century. The present silhouette commemorated his first voyage to Liberia, and appeared in The Non-Slaveholder for 1851.
