CURRIER, CHARLES. No. 3 Lithographic Crayons.

CURRIER, CHARLES. No. 3 Lithographic Crayons. Iridescent paper-covered card box and top with printed paper label containing 11 (of 12) sealed label-wrapped bundles of 12 lithographic crayons; one single loose crayon; minor wear. Brooklyn, mid-nineteenth century

  • Notes: An original box with nearly the entire gross of Currier''s No. 3 hard lithographic crayons intact in unopened individual packet wrappers.

Charles Currier, brother to Nathaniel, was an established lithographer in his own right but his greater contribution to the field was a collaboration with the artist Fanny Palmer to develop a new recipe to produce lithographic crayons that would be superior to the French variety. The tools proved to be of a better quality and Currier successfully manufactured and distributed his popular supplies from 521 Lafayette Avenue, Brooklyn for several decades of the mid-nineteenth century.
