(CUSTER, GEORGE ARMSTRONG.) Proceedings of a General Court Martial . . .

(CUSTER, GEORGE ARMSTRONG.) Proceedings of a General Court Martial . . . Case Tried: Major Marcus A. Reno. 3 volumes. 4to (10.5 x 11 inches), imitation leather gilt, with varying splitting along joints, otherwise excellent; individually mounted photostats of original 1877 and 1880 manuscript case files. In slipcases. Washington, 1964

  • Notes: Major Reno served under Custer at Little Bighorn. The troops under his command were separated from Custer''s, and most of them survived the battle; he was widely criticized for failing to support Custer. A year after the battle, Reno was court-martialed on charges of public indecency, and was suspended from rank for two years. Brought up again on similar charges in 1880, he was dismissed from the service. This apparently unique set includes a complete facsimile text of both trials, handsomely bound.
